The Centre for Swedish Studies (CSS)

The Centre for Swedish studies is an educational and information center, whose main purpose is to organize cultural and information activities that contribute to the promotion of Sweden.

The Centre for Swedish Studies has two main goals. The first is to spread information and knowledge about Sweden in Belarus, regarding the Swedish history, culture, language, business and society. The second main objective is through exchange and contacts with Swedish partners, expand Swedes' interest in cooperation with Belarus in spheres of education, research and culture.

Our History

The Centre for Swedish Studies was founded in March 2002 with support from the Swedish Institute, Stockholm (www.si.se), which today still is CSS's main partner.

Our first joint project was conducted together with Södertörn University, during 2002-2004. The project included a series of courses in Swedish Social Studies (realia), and Swedish language.

In March 2005, the Swedish center became a partner of the Center for International Studies (CfIS), an information and research organization that combines activities from three institutions: the Institute for German Studies (IfD), French-Belarusian center (CFB) and the Centre for Swedish Studies.

The Centre for Swedish Studies has had collaborative various projects, in particular, with the Swedish Arts Council (Kulturrådet), the Royal Society for Swedish Culture Abroad (Riksföreningen Sverigekontakt) and the Swedish Embassy in Minsk.
